BWCA is Reopening Overnight Entry Points
Great news. Williams and Hall Outfitters is open again, and many entry points into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness have already reopened, or are reopening on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
As you may already know, multiple wildfires in the BWCA have kept the canoe wilderness closed since mid-July. Certain areas within the BWCA will remain closed for the remainder of the season due to ongoing fire suppression efforts and continued wildfire activity from the Bear Trap, Sioux and Thumb fires. However, most of the Boundary Waters is now reopened.
Importantly, overnight entry points along the Fernberg Road northwest of Ely are reopening on August 5th. These include the following entry points in the Kawishiwi Ranger District.
· 25 Moose Lake
· 27 Snowbank Lake
· 28 Snowbank Lake only
· 29 North Kawishiwi River
· 30 Lake One
· 31 Farm Lake
· 32 South Kawishiwi River
· 6 Slim Lake
